英検について（５）
先日、英検の案内チラシを配布していた時の
ことです。
なぜか、Hさんと目があいました。そういえばHさん
最近英検受けてないな、と思ったので言いました。
「今回は受けないの？」
「しばらくいいです」
「Hちゃん、そこがね、あなたの唯一の弱点だよ。
失敗してもいいから、自分の殻を破った方がいいと思うよ」
この言葉が届いたかどうか分かりませんが、彼女は
じっと私の顔を見て黙っていました。
チャレンジという言葉があります。それは「失敗を
恐れずに物事に挑む」という意味だと私は理解しています。
失敗を恐れずにチャレンジすると、成功したらより強い
自信が生まれます。逆に失敗しても、なんだどうってことないじゃん
という根性が生まれます。いずれにしても、チャレンジしたことの結果は
心を成長させます。
チャレンジの姿勢が加わればHさんのキャラはさらに自由になり輝くと
思います。間違いありません。

The other day, I was handing out Step-test flyers.
I don’t know why, but it felt like a student was looking at me.
I looked back at her and said, “Oh!, you haven’t taken Step-test
for a while. Why don’t you take it this time?”
She answered,” I don’t feel like taking it. I am not sure whether
I will succeed.”
I stopped what I was doing at that time and sat down next to her.
“That is the only weak point you have. I mean you should
be more confident of yourself. Come on, Just try.”
I don’t know if my words reached her mind, but she was looking
straight at me a little bit seriously.
There is a word “challenge”. I understand that “to challenge” means
“to try something without being afraid of making mistakes.”
If somebody “challenges” and succeeds, he/she will gain a
greater confidence. And even if he fails, he will also have
knowledge that nothing bad will happen in life as long as he/she
is positive.
I am sure people can be freer by challenging themselve.
Rice fields near my house are getting ripe and turning gold.
