うちの奥さんはシュタイナー教育をずっと追求していますが、
その創始者であるドイツのルドルフ・シュタイナーが次のように言ってました。
「同じことを、同じ時間にやり続けると、意志の力が増す」
この言葉に触れて以来、ルーティーンの意義についてずっと考え続けています。
（２０年くらい！）
そして、自分の生活でも実験したり、人の様子を観察し続けています。（２０年も！）
ルーティーンが意志の力を増す。
この命題には真実が宿っていると、最近特に感じてます。
例えば塾での勉強。統計をとったわけではないのですが、
これまで３０００人以上の生徒さんを教えた経験では、
おなじ時間に必ず来る生徒はほぼ成績が安定しています。
意志力を培うのにルーティーンが役に立つ理由の一つは、
人間がリズムで生きる生き物だからかもしれません。
ルーティンは生活のリズムを生み、そのリズムが人生のパフォーマンスを
改善し、そして前向きに進む力＝意志力が生まれる。
こんな理屈なのかもしれません。

My wife has pursued the Steiner Education for most of her life.
Rudolf Steiner, German philosopher in 19th century, had an opportunity
to take care of a mentally disabled child and created a special
educational system.
He said in one of his works, ‘The power of will is gained by human beings
through doing the same thing at the same time’.
Since I came across this idea, I have been thinking about the meaning
of routine in life. (almost twenty years!)
I have also tried to apply this hypothesis to my own daily life and have observed
people around me to know whether it works.(as long as twenty years!)
Routine gives you the power of will.
I can’t explain the reason clearly, but I have come to realize it is true.
This may be the result of my long experience of teaching. I have taught
more than 3000 students as my career and serious pursuit of life.
Now I am sure students keep good scholastic performance by keeping
attending the same class at the same time.
One reason I can tell is that human beings live according to the rhythm.
Routine gives us the rhythm of life, which in turn improves the performance
of our life. And finally our power of will become strong through these
good procedure.
Personally I don’t know whether my power of will is strong or not, but
I can tell pursuing routine makes my mind stable.
